Claritin Dosage. threw away box. quick, easy 10pts.? I don't have the box w/ the dosage for claritin, and i wanna go to bed, but i'm miserable. is it 12 or 24 hours? i took one 12 hrs ago. do i take it again now? thanks nice people...i'm off to bed!!!! Derp... i feel miserable and had i posted in the allergy section i wouldn't have gotten an answer til saturday. shove it. :)

Mr. Derp!!! replied: "Go away. Post in a relevant forum, and get a relevant answer. EDIT: Why does everyone feed the trolls in R&S???"

CC replied: "Claritin (loratidine) 10 mgs is once a day (i.e. 24 hours). For some people loratidine is not strong enough. They go on to use cetirizine (Zyrtec) 10mgs, which is also once a day."

Cheryl E replied: "Normally it's one every 24 hours."

Teapotistic Pastafarian replied: "Sorry. Cannot help. I use Zyrtec."

Katrina P replied: "Depends of you got the the 24 hr dose or the 12. If it said Claritin d it should be a 24 hhr dose., but just to be safe, just take one. In the morning go to the store and find the box you bought and read the label to be sure."

Al Bundy replied: "I don't have allergies because I'm more evolved than you."

pastorbk replied: "My box says 10mg is 24 hour. The pollen is brutal in Nor. Cal. this week. Sniff some Vicks Vapor Rub to open your nose. Blessings."

If I am taking 12 hr Claritin D, but going to sleep 2 hrs before my next dosage can I just take it early? Or would that be bad? I dont really think it is working anymore anyways, but I don't want to make myself even more sick.

jacquese67 replied: "Take each dose one hour earlier. If not possible, yes you can take it an hour or two earlier, just may make you sleepy."

Question about Claritin D dosage? Hello! I have a question about what dose of Claritin should I take. I purchased Claritin D 250mg pills at pharmacy yesterday. Today I took one pill and I felt asleep also experiencing dry mouth problem (which also persisted earlier) now it's more increased....and other two side effects is slow urinating plus faster heart rate. It helped my eyes and somehow throat does not feel that scrached, however I had some side effects listed above. What should I do? Take a lower dosage? Half of a pill maybe? I would appreciate your advise. Thanks a lot!

bikkerbabeee replied: "Call a pharmacy, speak to the pharmacist and use his/her advice. there are many 24 hour pharmacies and you will get the best quality advice available."

Mickie replied: "Take the claritin at bedtime. This way you sleep through the majority of the side effects. The dry throat is a normal side effect and can go away in a few weeks. You could try taking half of one, but you may not get the total relief that you need. Just take one a day."

jloertscher replied: "I assume you got the Claritin D 24 hours (which is 240 mg). You cannot split them in half. It sounds like you need to take just plain loratadine. You fail to mention if you have problems with blood pressure, daibetes, etc. Call your Pharmacist, or e-mail me directly with more complete info."

gangadharan_nair replied: "Loratadine may cause side effects. Tell your doctor if any of these symptoms are severe or do not go away: * headache * dry mouth * nosebleed * sore throat * mouth sores * difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep * nervousness * weakness * stomach pain * diarrhea * red or itchy eyes Some side effects may be serious. If you experience any of the following symptoms, stop taking loratadine and call your doctor immediately: * rash * hives * itching * swelling of the eyes, face, lips, tongue, throat, hands, arms, feet, ankles, or lower legs * hoarseness * difficulty breathing or swallowing * wheezing Please see the web pages for more details on Loratadine (generic name) Claritine D (brand name)."

What is fatal dosage of Claritin? took 30mg so far? I'm not suicidal; I want to make sure I'm being safe...I'm just itching really bad and it's making me so irritable and I have nothing else to take...

Dr. B replied: "You should not be taking more than 10 mg of Claritin in day. I am not sure what the fatal dose of Claritin is, but you still should not be taking more than as directed. Taking additional doses will be unlikely to relieve your itching. Please call your doctor about this. There are other medications that can be used for itching, such as Benadryl or Hydroxyzine which could possibly work better."

Introgirly replied: "it should say on the box. for examle, ibeprophin says not to take more than 6 or u could OD. look at the box... and...don't take so much without knowing jeez. aren't you only suppose to take a pill every 6 hours or something?!?!"

Claritin 24 hour - Dosage Question? Hi, I have REALLY bad allergies. My throat has been killing me all day, and I've been sneezing up a storm. I used to be on the highest dosage of Allegra, which I took twice a day. That solved my allergies problem pretty well. However, I'm at college now and am out of allegra, so I'm now relying on over the counter Claritin, which just isn't doing it for me. So, I was wondering if anyone qualified could tell me if it would be ok to take one in the morning, and one at night, even though the box says to just take 1 every 24 hours. Side note: The box says : When using this product, do not take more than directed. Taking more than directed may cause drowsiness. Drowsiness is fine! I am just trying to sleep in peace here. Thank you for any help you might have!

Emily K replied: "No...do not take more than 1 every 24 hrs. It has ingredients in it that can cause some heart problems if you take it more often than prescribed. Take 1 every 24 hrs...then take 25-50mg of Benadryl as directed on the box. This should do the trick."

angela replied: "Try taking the 12 hr claritin instead. I think it works better then the 24 hr. I always feel like I need to take another one at night when I use the 24 hr too. For your throat try mucinex or mucus relief. You have drainage dripping in your throat thats irritating it and the mucus relief will be a great relief for you."

Can I double the dosage of Claritin-D? I'm taking Claritin-D 12 hr with pseudoephedrine for allergies. My nose is soo stuffy it's making me miserable. The only thing thing that's been working is nose spray but once it wears off my nose is worse than it was before. Soo my question is, has anyone ever taken two 12 hour claritin at once and had it work any better for nasal congestion? The box says not to ingest more than 2 in any 24 hr period. If I double the dose, I'll be taking 4 in a 24 hr period. Thanks a lot!

sokokl replied: "I wouldn't recommend it until double checking with the pharmacist to see what they say."

how long after i take claritin will it start to work? well my sis wants to know she is 11 and she took the dosage of 2 teaspoons how long will it take to work??

tsopolly replied: "About a half hour to 45 minutes."

happy replied: "It works really quickly for me. Around half an hour or so."

hakam replied: "Claritin is a good medication , usually works withen an hour. But, actually I prefer (Zyrtic)."

Alli replied: "look on the box-it's the best source"

Linda G replied: "it usually helps me in about 15 minutes clarinex in about 5."

Tylenol, Claritin harmful during pregnancy? I've been taking reg. strength Tylenol (as alot of pregnant women do) for aches and pains, especially headaches. I don't exceed the recommended dosage per day. My Dr. also recommended that I take Claritin for my severe allergy problems. The Claritin helps a little bit. Now the Dr. has prescribed Nasonex for my nasal allergies. I was told to use it along with the Claritin. Now, here's my problem. If you go to and type in Claritin, Tylenol, or Nasonex, there is a whole list of problems that come up!!! How can our Dr.'s feel comfortable with telling us it's okay to take these during pregnancy when in reality, studies have shown that it's not!?!?! I'll add details and show you guys what it says about each. Are there are other pregnant women out there who feel just as concerned as I do? Should I continue taking these medicines? Tylenol: Category B * Crosses the placenta. * In therapeutic doses it is safe for short-term use. * No well controlled human data, but there has been reports that maternal toxic doses can cause fetal liver toxicity, kidney abnormalities and intrauterine death. * Suggested possible association with congenital dis of the hip and club foot if used anytime during pregnancy. * Exposure to large doses of acetaminophen and propoxyphene throughout pregnancy can cause craniofacial and digital anomalies and infant withdrawal symptoms. Claritin: Category B Fetal Risk: * Not teratogenic in animals. * Data not available in human pregnancy but reported possible association with some congenital defects: Cardiac defects, diaphragmatic hernia, cleft palate, microphthalmia and deafness. Nasonex: Category C Fetal Risk: * Studies on animals show adverse effect and toxicity on fetus. * No adequate and well controlled studies done on pregnant women. * Drugs should be given only if the potential benefit outweighs the potential risk to the fetus. Tylenol: Category B Fetal Risk: * Crosses the placenta. * Exposure to large doses of acetaminophen and propoxyphene throughout pregnancy can cause craniofacial and digital anomalies and infant withdrawal symptoms.

missyW replied: "i would not take the claritin or Nasonex. and do not take the tylenol everyday, i know its safe in small doses, as i had taken tylenol with my first preg, the doctor said not to take everytime i had a headache just when needed, talk to your doctor and see if theres alternatives, but i would not take them as those risks are to high and too much!"

fiona t replied: "I wouldn't worry about it so much, Tylenol is safe during pregnancy, as long as your not taking it all the time, as well as antihistamines, everything in moderation. Your doctor is not going to tell you to use something that will hurt your baby, especially something that millions of women use during pregnancy. Get a second opinion if you are worried, and do not rely on information that you have found on the internet, it is not always reliable. I took Tylenol when I was pregnant and know of dozens of other women that have taken Claritin, etc. and there have been no problems with any of out babies."

mrsking022 replied: "Wow you did your research!!!that's great well when i was pregnant the Dr. told me that if I absolutely had to take anything then take Tylenol so i took it only when i needed to he also recommended Benadryl was suprised by the Benadryl!!! I think you should continue to take them in moderation."

dragonflykagerou84 replied: "I suggest you express your concerns to your doctor. Don't forget he/she is the doctor, and has been to med school. I am sure your doctor would not give you something that will most certainly damage your child. I understand your allergy needs though, I had the worst allergies, and i wouldn't take anything for them. My docs told me the only thing I could take was sudafed and that don't work for me."

mkys replied: "I to was on claritan because I am allergic to benadryl.. as long as you take the meds in moderation it will be ok."

brandi m replied: "im not sure of the nasonex. i know that category a and b are fine. you should only use category c if the benefits outweigh the risks. tylenol and plain claritin (not d) are safe. if you dont feel comfortable taking them then dont. its all up to you. however you should not suffer either. if you want to use a nose spray use saline, not the rx."

alimagmel replied: "Look, there are a lot of sites on the internet designed by alarmists that think *everything* people put into their bodies, especially during pregnancy, are absolutely horrible, but it's up to you. I found this info about Claritin at (who gets their info straight from the FDA): "Pregnancy Category B There was no evidence of animal teratogenicity in studies performed in rats and rabbits at oral doses up to 96 mg/kg (approximately 75 times and 150 times, respectively, the maximum recommended human daily oral dose on a mg/m2 basis). There are, however, no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. Because animal reproduction studies are not always predictive of human response, loratadine should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed." This is about Nasonex: "Pregnancy Teratogenic Effects: Pregnancy Category C: When administered to pregnant mice, rats, and rabbits, mometasone furoate increased fetal malformations. The doses that produced malformations also decreased fetal growth, as measured by lower fetal weights and/or delayed ossification. Mometasone furoate also caused dystocia and related complications when administered to rats during the end of pregnancy. In mice, mometasone furoate caused cleft palate at subcutaneous doses of 60 mcg/kg and above (less than the MRDID in adults on a mcg/m2 basis). Fetal survival was reduced at 180 mcg/kg (approximately 2 times the MRDID in adults on a mcg/m2 basis). No toxicity was observed at 20 mcg/kg (less than the MRDID in adults on a mcg/m2 basis). In rats, mometasone furoate produced umbilical hernia at topical dermal doses of 600 mcg/kg and above (approximately 10 times the MRDID in adults on a mcg/m2 basis). A dose of 300 mcg/kg (approximately 6 times the MRDID in adults on a mcg/m2 basis) produced delays in ossification, but no malformations. In rabbits, mometasone furoate caused multiple malformations (eg, flexed front paws, gallbladder agenesis, umbilical hernia, hydrocephaly) at topical dermal doses of 150 mcg/kg and above (approximately 6 times the MRDID in adults on a mcg/m2 basis). In an oral study, mometasone furoate increased resorptions and caused cleft palate and/or head malformations (hydrocephaly or domed head) at 700 mcg/kg (approximately 30 times the MRDID in adults on a mcg/m2 basis). At 2800 mcg/kg (approximately 110 times the MRDID dose in adults on a mcg/m2 basis), most litters were aborted or resorbed. No toxicity was observed at 140 mcg/kg (approximately 6 times the MRDID in adults on a mcg/m2 basis). When rats received subcutaneous doses of mometasone furoate throughout pregnancy or during the later stages of pregnancy, 15 mcg/kg (less than the MRDID in adults on a mcg/m2 basis) caused prolonged and difficult labor and reduced the number of live births, birth weight, and early pup survival. Similar effects were not observed at 7.5 mcg/kg (less than the MRDID in adults on a mcg/m2 basis). There are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. NASONEX Nasal Spray, 50 mcg, like other corticosteroids, should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefits justify the potential risk to the fetus. Experience with oral corticosteroids since their introduction in pharmacologic, as opposed to physiologic, doses suggests that rodents are more prone to teratogenic effects from corticosteroids than humans. In addition, because there is a natural increase in corticosteroid production during pregnancy, most women will require a lower exogenous corticosteroid dose and many will not need corticosteroid treatment during pregnancy. Nonteratogenic Effects: Hypoadrenalism may occur in infants born to women receiving corticosteroids during pregnancy. Such infants should be carefully monitored." So, Nasonex does indeed seem to be bad. But I can tell you from my own pregnancy experience that me taking Tylenol throughout my pregnancy did *nothing* to my son. He's perfectly healthy. So be careful what you read on the internet. That Safe Fetus site seems like an alarmist site that wants to promote the belief that no outside medicine is good for pregnancy (which just isn't true). All in all, just use your discretion."

Chasmin S replied: "I wouldn't suggest taken claritin or nasonex due to the info you found."

Jamester replied: "I don't know about the Claritin, but look closer at Tylenol...if you're taking LARGE doses. As long as you don't exceed the 4 gm/day, you'll be fine. Just to be safe though, I only use Tylenol if I absolutely have to - I've only used it maybe twice during my pregnancy so far. If Tylenol was bad, then a LOT of babies would be born with abnormalities - most pregnant women take it at some point in their pregnancy. So try not to stress - the doc knows what he's talking about."

what is the best over the counter allergy medican? whats the best over the counter allergy medican? claritin and benidral do nothing for me. I tripped the recommended dosage and still no relief. Any good recomendations?

***~*** replied: "Claritin did nothing for me and Benedryl makes me way too tired to function. Zyrtec has worked the best for me with no side effects."

The Mighty Boosh replied: "Make sure you're using an allergy medicine that has "D" on the package such as Claratin D like I use or Tavist D or Allegra D and so on and so forth. You will probably have to get it from the pharmacy itself and sign for it, but it seems to work."

nonolittlehippo replied: "try zyrtec and if you have a leaky nose get the zyrtec-d it will dry up your leaky nose"

Jen F replied: "Zyrtec worked very well for me. But I use Sudefed 24 hours now because I get really clogged sinuses."

keiko replied: "I use Zyrtec. I have used both Claritin and Benadryl in the past. If it doesn't work, you can just start trying any other brand, including the generic ones or the ones made by the drug store. You might want to add a nasal spray to the pill. Your next step might be to see the doctor. The pre ion strength medications can be stronger and more effective, but they weren't for me. At one time, I was on two pre ion pills and two nasal sprays and they weren't any more effective than the one Zyrtec I take now. I have year round allergies that cause my nose to run all the time and some post-nasal drip."
